Imd Weather Update: The scorching heat in the country has badly affected life. The temperature has gone above 42 degrees Celsius in many states of North, Central and East India. On the other hand, there is also a possibility of thunderstorm and light rain in some states. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a heatwave alert in 11 states and a rain warning in some areas.
Temperature crosses 42 degrees in Delhi
The heat has broken records in the country’s capital Delhi and NCR. The maximum temperature has reached 42 degrees Celsius, 2-3 degrees above normal. The Meteorological Department has predicted heat wave from Thursday to Saturday. Hot winds are scorching people since morning, making it difficult to go out.
Heatwave alert continues in these states
According to the Meteorological Department, the following 11 states are most affected by heatwave:
- Madhya Pradesh
- Chhattisgarh
- Eastern Rajasthan
- Haryana
- Odisha
- Punjab
- Delhi
- Jharkhand (partially)
- Bihar (some parts)
- West Bengal (some areas)
In these states, it has been advised not to go out of the house between 12 noon and 4 pm. Heat stroke cases are increasing and attendance in schools and offices is declining.
Scorching heat in Uttar Pradesh
In districts like Kanpur, Lucknow, Agra, Prayagraj and Varanasi of UP, the temperature is above 40 degrees. The effect of heat wave is more in western Uttar Pradesh, while light rain and thunderstorms are expected in some districts of eastern UP, which may provide some relief.
Yellow alert for rain in Bihar and Jharkhand
Light rain, thunderstorms and strong winds are expected in some districts of Bihar and Jharkhand between 24 and 26 April. Yellow alert has been issued in areas like Kishanganj and Araria. People have been advised to stay away from weak structures and electric poles.
Signs of rain and snowfall in Himalayan states
The weather may change in Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand due to the effect of western disturbance. There is a possibility of heavy rain, hailstorm, thunder and snowfall in high altitude areas. Temperature may drop in areas like Srinagar, Gulmarg and Ladakh.
Central India is also scorching
The mercury has reached 43 degrees in eastern parts of Madhya Pradesh like Jabalpur, Rewa and Satna. People have been advised to avoid strong sunlight, cover their heads and drink more water. Changes in school and office timings are also being considered.
Administration fully alert
The disaster management departments, health units and electricity departments of the states have been put on alert. Arrangements have been made in hospitals to deal with heat stroke. Besides, alternative arrangements are being made to deal with power cuts, water crisis and emergency situations.
