Cyclone forecast 2024:Cyclone forecast in Bay of Bengal on May Warning for fishermen Cyclone forecast on Sunday, wind speed of 102 kmph, likely to affect these parts of the country
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has warned that a severe cyclone is likely to hit the Bay of Bengal on May 24.
Fishermen have been advised to return to the coast by Thursday, May 23.
A low pressure area is likely to form over southwest Bay of Bengal around May 22.
By the morning of 24 May, it will develop into a depression over central Bay of Bengal and then intensify into a cyclone.
Heavy to very heavy rain and gusty winds are likely over coastal Odisha and northern parts of West Bengal.
Cyclone may affect Odisha, Maharashtra and Gujarat from May 23 to May 27.
IMD predicts heavy rains in Gujarat and Mumbai on May 28, 2024.
Fishermen should follow the forecast and not go out to sea on May 23.
Light rain till May 23 in these states
The Meteorological Department has predicted light rain in Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura and other states till May 23. In its latest bulletin, the IMD wrote, “Thunderstorm will be accompanied by light to moderate rains.”
The Meteorological Department has also forecast light to moderate rain, thunder, lightning and gusty winds over Karnataka, Puducherry, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Lakshadweep and Telangana till May 23.
Meanwhile, Kerala has been receiving heavy rains for the past few days. The state government has urged residents, especially those living in mountainous and coastal areas, to be vigilant.
Thiruvananthapuram city and parts of its suburbs were flooded, resulting in inundation of houses and shops in the southern district following heavy rains on the night of May 18.
At present the surface temperature of the Bay of Bengal is 28 to 30 degrees Celsius and the temperature above 26 degrees Celsius is required to form a cyclone. That is, the sea temperature is high enough to create favorable conditions for hurricanes.
Although many factors besides temperature play a role in the formation of a storm, various models are also showing that the system will continue to strengthen, and according to some weather models, the system may develop into a hurricane.
The direction this system will take is also not yet determined as models do not agree on this and different models show different paths. Three countries, India, Myanmar and Bangladesh are at risk from cyclones in the Bay of Bengal.
According to the Meteorological Department, an average of 4 to 5 cyclones occur in the Arabian Sea and the Bay of Bengal before and after the monsoon. But this year there has not been a single cyclone yet.
