Cyclone hamoon live tracker: On Tuesday, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) announced that Cyclonic storm ‘Hamoon’ has escalated into a severe cyclonic storm while situated over the Northwest Bay of Bengal. According to the IMD, the cyclone ‘Hamoon’ is expected to maintain its north-northeastward trajectory. Projections in the latest forecasts indicate that on October 25, 2023, around noon, the storm is anticipated to reach the Bangladesh coast, making landfall between Khepupara and Chittagong as a deep depression.

The severe cyclonic storm in the Bay of Bengal is poised to induce light to moderate rainfall across most areas in the northeastern states of Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura, Meghalaya, and southern Assam. Mizoram is expected to experience heavy rainfall on October 24, while even more substantial downpours are anticipated in Tripura. The risk of heavy rain is expected to persist in these regions on October 25, although the intensity is projected to diminish by October 26, resulting in light to moderate rainfall at a few locations.

Cyclonic Storm Hamoon is also generating robust winds across the Bay of Bengal and various regions in Eastern India.

Squally winds with speeds ranging from 40-50 kmph, gusting to 60 kmph, are anticipated until October 24 along and off the Odisha coast. These winds are set to commence along and off the coasts of West Bengal, Bangladesh, and North Myanmar from the morning of October 24. They are expected to gradually intensify, reaching 55-65 kmph with gusts up to 75 kmph along and off the Bangladesh coast, 50-60 kmph with gusts up to 70 kmph along and off the North Myanmar coast, and 45-55 kmph with gusts up to 65 kmph along and off the West Bengal coast on October 25th.

On October 25, squally winds with speeds ranging from 40-50 kmph, gusting to 60 kmph, are likely to persist over Mizoram and Tripura. Strong winds with speeds of 30-40 kmph, gusting to 50 kmph, are expected over South Assam and Manipur on the same day.
